ARTCENTER ONLINE COURSE: BTHECD (Be the Creative Director)

Software Used: After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere

For ArtCenter Online’s class on creative direction (branded as BtheCD), in addition to filming and editing the course videos, I created the look and style for the marketing and social media. Prior to my work on this project, the only branding at the time was the name. My job was to expand and define the visual language that would be used in work for this course. My work included creating a 30 second trailer and multiple social media posts establishing a consistent tone for all the works.

In addition, I created assets, such as title pages as MOGRTs, to use in the class videos and proposed using them to maintain a consistent tone across all media related to BtheCD, although they ended up not being used in the final course videos.

In the end, BtheCD was ArtCenter Online’s best selling course. The course ran three semesters and sold out every semester, with a long waiting list of students.

The course featured sycnhronous and asynchornous content. The asynchronous content consisted of guided readings, as well as short videos of the professors discussing the creative process. Five videos with five different professors were created for students to watch. The videos were short, usually around seven minutes long, meaning the course placed a larger emphasis on the synchronous elements of the class. However, the videos still served as a crucial element to the student experience, as they provided different ways to approach the creative process for directors and provided tips to access one’s creativity at will.

I even made a tutorial on how to create one of the MOGRTs.
